How to protect yourself when buying double glazing

The Federation of Small Businesses has warned that a new scheme designed to offer homeowners more protection from rogue double glazing companies could rule out many smaller local window companies that offer sterling service.

The new ombudsmen scheme (DGCOS) has been trialling for four years now and involves a vetting process which includes members detailing past orders as well as demonstrating a minimum 10 year guarantee which includes public liability insurance on actual installations.

Customers of member companies will also benefit from a deposit protection scheme backed up by the ombudsmen scheme rather than the company.

However, the Federation warns that the high costs to members could preclude many smaller, family firms from being able to join.

It says that one of the best ways to ensure you're using a reliable company is to take note of personal recommendations and comments left by previous customers.

At WindowQuoter, we also believe homeowner feedback is one of the best ways to help a homeowner decide which double glazing company to use. We've been asking all our website users to leave their feedback - good, bad or ugly on the nationwide network of companies we're able to put them in touch with.

It's feedback that's freely available to you to help you make the right decision for you and your home.

Give it a try today - visit Window Quoter.co.uk and get your free online quote in minutes, then see which companies are operating in your area, offering the product you were interested in and see what your neighbours thought of them - before you make a potentially costly mistake.
