The new ombudsmen scheme (DGCOS) has been trialling for four years now and involves a vetting process which includes members detailing past orders as well as demonstrating a minimum 10 year guarantee which includes public liability insurance on actual installations.

Customers of member companies will also benefit from a deposit protection scheme backed up by the ombudsmen scheme rather than the company.

However, the Federation warns that the high costs to members could preclude many smaller, family firms from being able to join.
